The full-size crossover sport utility vehicle from the house of Chevrolet is built on the platform of GM Lambda.
It also shares its basic design with Saturn Outlook, GMC Outlook and Buick Enclave.
It was released as a successor model to Trailblazer SUV and Uplander minivan.
First Generation (2008-Present)
First generation Chevrolet Traverse model was debuted at Chicago Auto Show in 2008 as 2009 model. The major competitor to the model includes Ford Flex. It is the first SUV model to have the seating capacity of 8-passengers. Though the model shares most of the design cues with Saturn Outlook, and Buick Enclave, it differs in features, pricing and details.
The current generation Chevrolet Traverse model is offered in three trim versions, the base model LS, mid-level LT and up-level LTZ. The maximum towing capacity of the model is around 5200 lbs. The SUV model is offered in either all wheel drive or in front wheel drive.
The standard features in all the models include satellite radio, navigation system with real time traffic information, leather upholstery, remote engine start, DVD entertainment system, rear climate control, rear view camera and rear obstacle detection.
The standard engine to the SUV model include 3.6 liter V6 version that delivers power up to 281 hp at 6400 rpm and torque of 253 lb ft at 5500 rpm. It is mated to 6-speed automatic transmission. With the V6 engine, the Traverse model can achieve fuel economy of 16 mpg in the city premises and 23 mpg on the highway roads.
Major competitors to the Chevrolet Traverse model include Toyota Highlander, Dodge Journey, Mazda CX-9, GMC Acadia, Honda Pilot, and Saturn Outlook.
